"二零一零年一月，司徒華為他的文集《欄干拍遍》寫前言，書名撮自辛棄疾的詞；當時，他詩興大發，寫了一首七絕：

一劍一簫甘澹泊，亦狂亦俠也溫文。
不流拍遍欄干淚，未悔無人倩袖巾。

寫就那刻，他說不知道自己還剩下多少日子，只覺無悔今生。這短短二十八個字，可算是他的人生自畫像。

「大江東去，浪淘盡，千古風流人物」。歷史猶如一條長河，滾滾流向大海。每個人是一點小水滴，不論落在田野，抑或溪澗，最終會慢慢匯入這條長河。每個人都不能脫離歷史，而且必須跟隨歷史的發展，一直流向大海。司徒華回憶錄取名《大江東去》，擷取蘇東坡《念奴嬌‧赤壁懷古》的詞句，希望能夠反映歷史面貌及發展，同時亦清楚講明，我作為一點小水滴，是如何融入歷史長河的。

司徒華寫回憶錄的念頭，始於一九九六年，那是香港回歸的前一年，開始做錄音，叮囑家人好好地整理出來。回憶錄寫的是︰第一，個人理想、信念的幻滅和重建；第二，總結經驗，以防「港人治港」演變為「黨人治港」；第三，留下有益社會的經驗教訓；第四，記錄一個時代的歷史面貌；第五，有關家庭、家族、朋友等值得記下來的事情。他強調，寫回憶錄並不是為自己樹碑立傳，只想將自己經歷的一切寫出來，留下史實。

司徒華生於一個國難當前的時代。自小渴望國家富強、人民毋庸再受異族欺凌。打從一九四九年開始，便參與團體及社會活動，至今超過六十年。這段期間，香港發生大大小小的社會運動，特別是七十年代後，諸如七三文憑教師事件、創辦教協、金禧事件、中文運動、保釣運動、八八直選、六四事件、支聯會成立、黃雀行動，以及最近期的政改紛爭等等，司徒華都參與其中，有很深的體會，積累不少經驗和教訓，也歷盡滄桑。司徒華愛國，因為看到民族的苦難，他愛他的同胞；但愛國並不等於愛黨，也不等於愛一個政權。司徒華的終極目標，是要結束一黨專政，建設民主中國。

在回憶錄中，司徒華不諱言早年受國際共產主義思潮影響，思想左傾，跟共產黨組織有過密切的聯繫。《挑燈看劍》可以說是回憶錄中最重要的部分，或者可以看成是一篇「自剖」的文字，司徒華剖白了他半生與共產黨的關係。"

"在高等教育，桑德爾教授的「正義」課堂是一則傳奇。1980年第一次開課，學生只有15人，近年則每每破千，總是比第二熱門課還多出四五百人，累計學生人數已超過一萬五，桃李遍及各界菁英。

2009年，哈佛決定把這門課向全球公開。作者不只把教學內容寫成本書，上課實況還被剪輯成12個鐘頭，在美國公共電視播出。大學課堂整學期實況向公眾播放，這是美國電視史上第一次，也是至今唯一僅有的一次。

這12個鐘頭在網路上被瘋狂轉寄。整個2010年下半年，日本、中國、韓國都在討論「桑德爾熱潮」，成為一大文化現象。他到東京演講，黃牛票竟然要價500美元。在中國，網友自動為畫面加上中文字幕，把上網「淘課」變成新流行。《中國新聞週刊》因此在2010年底將桑德爾選為年度「最有影響力人物」。

書名雖然標榜正義，重點卻是思考力的訓練。作者有教學天才，新聞事件信手拈來都是正義思考的案例。要解釋康德，他使用柯林頓偷腥案。要解釋羅爾斯，他搬出伍迪艾倫。

要把理性帶進公領域，公民必須把自己的正義觀說出道理，不能只是「我說我對就是我對」。本書目的正是邀請讀者做個自我檢視，搞清楚自己抱持哪些信念，何以抱持這些信念。有了理性思辨，民主對話才能向上提升，不會一直停留在互嗆叫陣的層次。"
